Aaron Hill, a 15-year-old from Big Stone Gap, Virginia, was this year’s winner of the One Shot with a bird that scored a 79 on the NWTF scale. His bird weighed in at slightly over twenty-one pounds, with a foot-long beard and nearly 1-¾ inch spurs. On the bird of a lifetime, Hill never pulled the trigger. He pulled his bow back. Here is his story and the One Shot.

The One shot turkey hunt

For the past four years, the Wildlife Foundation of Virginia has hosted it's annual Old Dominion One Shot Turkey Hunt, which provides an opportunity for younger generations to encounter an outdoor experience and mentorships.

Each year, the One Shot pairs up to 50 hunters on private properties throughout the state. Experienced guides accompany hunters, many of them youth or Wounded Warriors, through all of the adventures a turkey hunt promises.

Last year during the 4th Annual Old Dominion One Shot we had a record number of youth hunters participate (of which 12 received their lifetime hunting licenses). Nine birds were taken, great experiences enjoyed, and to top it all off, the overall champion was a 15 year old youth hunter.

We’re looking forward to our 5th Annual One Shot on April 27, 2019!
